Time: 9am for kit out and 10am the fun starts
How much: €60 (Event ticket, box of paint, unlimited HPA and entry into raffle)
Paint: After initial box covered by entry fee this is a B.Y.O.P event or site paint available for €40 per box
Dress code: Fancy dress essential. Prize for most original costume. (Woodsballers you can’t come dressed as a soldier!)

The IWL is over, we have a winner. Time for reflection on this first year, analysis and possible improvements for the following years.

This topis is intended as a discussion on IWL, so anyone having any ideas on how to improve IWL in the years to come please post. I hope there will be great ideas making IWL experience even more enjoyable.

What I personally love about IWL is that the competitive side of the league is well balanced with fun factor, there is general feeling of friendship and fun among players, I think it is a great thing worth preserving.

I also consider organization of the league, with 7 person teams and Frontier / Battlebridge games just right for the moment, perhaps when the league will grow up in size some changes might be implemented.

Reffing - As I was reffing all the games in the last leg I have my reflection on system of reffing, it was my first time as a referee or Marshall :mrgreen: and the idea of having head ref is great, I only wish all the refs had meeting before the game to explain and agree on the rules. Will give example - and I know it was my personal ignorance in respect to best practices, but on the other hand it could happen to any inexperienced person reffing - Richie and Eoin99 had a shootout that I witnessed, and they shoot each other almost simultaneously, although I was pretty sure Eoin shoot Richie first, I sent both of them out, but still have my doubts whether my action was correct and feel I might have been unfair to Eoin (sorry mate). I think there shall be a document explaining set of rules and standards for referees available to download from paintballer.ie for reference for the referees.

It was nice to see Cold Blooded Painters winning the league, people who just entered the world of paintball, proof that determination is as important as skills and experience. I was quite sure Vikings would prevail, but it just wasn't the vikings day on that day in Battlebridge.

It also indicates that the league is still fresh and anything can happen, the teams are not yet perfectly tuned, and tactic, determination and pure luck plays much bigger role in woodsball than in speedball competitions.

As a referee i was able to observe closely the games of all teams during last leg and I was able to see great skills of Ruddmann and Eoin99 that they acquired on speedball fields, but also determination of Glen and Paul Logan in their run for the pod in one game, I was equally impressed with them all.

I believe woodsball league is much friendlier place for these paintballers with competitive spirit but not yet possessing the skills necessary to be good on speedball field, or for those who enjoy slower pace of the games and more tactical aspect. I can understand that for some speedballers there is not enough raw action during IWL games, and it is well, we have two different leagues that complement one another, so every paintballer can find the style he likes most.

Year one of the IWL is over. We all are looking forward to year two and following.

Fair play to Cold Blooded Painters for winning the league, fair play to every player of IWL, all of us just made small history here.
