Could you manage a paintball team? Paintball Manager - Free Online Paintball Manager Simulation can help you figure out if you are made of the right stuff.
Paintball manager is a web based management simulator, similar to that of Football Manager or the Championship Manager series where you, the user, take control of everything involving your team.
Created by Markus, or makush as he is known online, the game offers the user a view of the other side of paintball. Giving the player the ability to manage their own club however they see fit.
Features such as controlling where the club’s cash flow goes can greatly increase your fan club, or train your players into killing machines that win tournaments in their spare time, give you complete power over the fate of your newly formed club. Recruiting “young guns”, players from your own country who you have scouted to be superstars if nurtured by the right coach is a good way to secure the clubs future for example.
But possibly the best feature of the whole game is that you can set the tactics of what your team do in games, in every field type, and using every player in your arsenal. You set where the go, when they go there, how they get there and what they do while going there. This involves setting way points for their players, creating lanes and also deciding on how their player should act, whether it be aggressively or defensively.
The interface is easy to follow, as shown above, provided you take the time to understand it. Using the same view of the field, you can watch your matches take place in real time as your small red dots take out the other teams small green dots. Most recently, Makush has made this view partially 3D, which allows the user to view the field from a more realistic point of view.
Other tasks in game, although they're not required to be done by the user are things like your teams finances, making sure you don't go bankrupt is pretty obvious but it can easily be done if you go off and blow $20,000 on your arena, stupidly providing 1000 seats for your 400 fans that turn up to your games. You can put money into your advertising campaign to try gain some more fans, the youth camp to try increase the chances of having a good youth player come through into your first team, basically deciding everything to do with your team and allowing you to bring it up through the ranks.
The most enjoyable feature of the game for me is playing challenges against your friends, there is nothing more enjoyable than setting out a few games against your friends in a fight for bragging rights then fixing and refining your tactics in the hope you can come back in the next game or hammer them some more!
We spoke to Markus to ask him little about the game PaintBaller.ie - When and where did you get the idea for an online paintball game? Markus - I have always been big fan of manager games and played lot of old footy manager games. Some years ago I started playing a bit similar game as Paintball Manager. It was fun at first, but I felt I could create much better match simulation, because I had been doing some artificial intelligence work for games earlier. So I started to write my own simulation and eventually it turned into full game.
PB.ie - What is your own paintball background? Markus - I have followed professional paintball for some years, especially PSP and LA Ironmen, but other than that I don't have serious paintballer background.
PB.ie - What are your plans for future development of the game if any? Markus - At the moment I am focusing on finishing some missing features such as layout editor, friendly leagues and national teams. It would be great to work with paintball industry, but I feel that the game needs to be fully functional first until you can start talks with other parties.
PB.ie - How about a fantasy paintball league based on actual players in the Millennium Series or PSP? Markus - That's obviously something you cannot just start on your on, but if a league provides financial support I would love to be part of making fantasy paintball game. I guess in current economic situation this is not really possible.
