Default Skirmish Paintball, Roundwood Review

Name & Location: Skirmish Paintball, Roundwood, Co.Wicklow

Website http://www.skirmish.ie (new website)

Field type: Woodsball / Rec Ball

Number of Visits: 4

Markers: New Tippmann 98 Custom with ACT (very nice)

Can bring own marker?: Yes

Masks: Scott

Paintblls used: Not sure this time, low/mid range paint.

Pricing: No Entrance Fees. Just €10 per pod (100 paintballs)

Scoring: Per objective

Head shot count: No

Marshals:
Very good on the day. Good explaination of each game, helpful with any marker troubles.

Game Review:
I was there for the DIT Grudge Match, North side DIT V South Side. Skirmish are still student friendly. We were not charged a game fee as such but there was a min buy of 200 paintballs i.e. €20. Makes sense cause you are not going to go out with no ammo.

I enjoyed the day overall 10 fold over the last time. The day was run well. There was no hassle except with my own marker and the C02 due to the freezing weather and the Response Trigger Freezing up. Funniest thing of the day was when there was one girl who went missing in the jungle after the first game, she was gone for 10mins....... all alone it seemed.

Despite the North Siders being out numbered 2 to 1 and us getting hammered, it was a bit of craic. The south siders had a few women on the day which was a nice change. I scored a few..... hits on one or two of them.

Other than that, good day. The place has improved and I am more than happy to go back again.

Games Played:
Same as below

Rating:
Basing this review on that day, i give it 8.5/10.

Conclusion:
A big improvement on previous trips. The game zones seemed to be better, the markers are 100% better. When my A-5 was chopping paint, their 98c with ACT did not have one break all day.

Hey,

Was in Skirmish recently. Had alot of fun (second time at the venue) The googles provided could do with a proper clean and the guns need some serious work. But other than that I would certainly recommend it! Marshals were good both ref-ing and for some banter.

I was up there yesterday. I only had a small group so maybe that was why we could book. I did hear that they were very full up in June however

Another review of the site, and an edit to Richie's, I had a look at the paint we were using the last time, it was Draxxus Midnight, which is strange considering it was a little bad. today I think was white-box, even the ref had no clue what paint.

Saturday is a great day to go and mix it up with the punters, a few were wary of my mile-long Tippy but for the most part were friendly and interested in the marker. (A few claimed that my shots hurt more, but I think thats just psychosomatic since it was chronoed at 285fps) Had a little run-in with some Army Reserves who thought I was demanding they get off the field when hit, when I was just trying to get a newbie to stop shooting them at close range (He bunkered them and kept bunkering them..) The new ACT ( I know its mine but its the same model as theirs ) worked wonders, had NO barrel or cyclone breaks whatsoever. Their ACTs were accurate enough (I know all too well..) and I saw no ball-breaks even with possibly white-box paint, and there were enough of them to go round, I estimate 20-25 a side.

Brilliant fun with the huge numbers of people, only problem is punters often don't play according to the rules which can be infuriating at times, it justs wastes pballs when I have to shoot them multiple times. Only qualm I have about the tower game is that it is difficult for people in the top tower to get down, I was hitting a lad in the legs and another in the arse over and over and later got told they didn't surrender cause they couldn't get down.. Tough

One piece of advice-When trying to bring the flag across the bridge, simply leave ur marker behind and get someone (the metallifan in my case) to cover u as u leg it to the flag. It was the biggest adrenalin rush I have had in a long time, and I personally hand-tagged (forgot to bring my barrel) 3 people without a marker. definitely bringing my pistol the next time to at least have a little firepower. Got the flag and ran towards the bridge only to be cut down by Hel's extremely accurate friendly fire :P ! We got it across in the end, though!
All in all a good day, Dave has done excellent work with sprucing up the place, there's now hotdogs for 2.50 there on the spot, as well as coffee and tea and a well run place. New nettings have been put up, including a new one in the hostage game where the marshal sits in so he can observe the game. The only complaints were punters not admitting to being shot, but the few refs there were did their job well and were friendly. They are also going to be offering vouchers (purchaseable from Tesco!!!) 10 euros for 4 people entry including 100 pballs each! Great craic, go on a Saturday with mates and meet new people..then shoot them!!

Heh, you actually caught us on a bad day. Like ten guns broke.

And the paint was some sort of Draxxus rec-sport, not sure which though.

Was a great day.

I had quite a few barrel breaks, but otherwise most of my shots seemed to obey the conventional laws of aerodynamics (ie. they went in a straight line )
All the markers are in good condition, I don't think I saw any major issues with leaking gas tanks or hoppers falling apart.
The marshals were friendly and did a good job looking after everyone, and kept the markers and other gear in good working order. They have new camo suits as well.

I haven't been to skirmish in ages, and I was very impressed with how well the day went.

well im not sure they had to sell because when we went with the rugby club there were enough markers for 30 lads and around 20 more other guys...

i agree about the adrenalin rush as you bring back the flag....me and a few lads worked in pods of 4 to get the flag back....amazing fun i have to say my covering fire was brilliant when i went on the flag run but the other guys wouldnt hit the side of the house nonetheless it scared seven shades of ****e out of me when a paintball smacked into the wooden post right in front of my crotch....bad memories of earlier days of paintball.........all in all i racked up my best ever killcount that day...although some refuse to leave even with 5 high velocity paintballs bruising them.......nonetheless a brilliant day
