    Default IWL4 post traumatic stress

    Right folks
IWL forth leg, everyone who was there knows it was a bit of tragedy.
Fair play to organisers for organizing the raffle, Mak - the rocksteady supporter of Irish paintballing and Glen for offering Battlebridge unsurpassed gaming area for the last half of final event.

Gods of weather do not look down on woodsballers in Ireland with mercy, they want to test our determination, so if no one has some divine influence, I guess we have to live with that.

    BUT

I was absolutely put off by the attitude of some IWL players, and I want to say it loud and propose some amendments to IWL rules that I hope will improve the games next year.

Several players came to the event seriously late. This fact made all the other players wait for late comers and waste time.
The best weather during the day was wasted waiting for disorganized minority.

Lads, it is simply not fair for all the rest.

I am coming to games from as far away as you can get in Ireland.
If I can make it on time everyone else can and I expect this courtesy from all the players.

I do not think I am asking too much or something that is unmanageable. Moreover I know there are other people who share my point of view.

Therefore I propose the following rules to be introduced next year.

The start time of the games are set in stone.

If it says in the players pack everyone needs to be at the event at, let say 10, everyone is there at 10. If somebody was too lazy to get on time he/she does not play.

If the team is missing half of players - fine by me, the rules are the same for everyone.

The other point I noticed during the game (first game) was a misunderstanding of the game boundaries.

Therefore I propose introduction of the following operating procedure for the next year of IWL.

Players pack contains same info on each event, to be agreed by the IWL committee, but including the following information:

    1. Site open from x hour

    2. Ref meeting at x hour

    3. Team captains meeting at x hour

Team captains meeting includes the description of objectives and game specific rules.

During captains meeting IWL organizers and head ref have a walk in the game area and captains are shown details of the field - including boundaries.

It is captains duty to pass this information to the team.

Any player not adhering to the rules - i.e. crossing set boundaries is eliminated from the game.

    4. Game start at x hour

Any team missing or missing players - too bad for a team.

As I said the hours shall be set in stone and there shall be no deviation from the schedule.

I believe similar set of rules was in operation this year, so that is not something totally new.
I would prefer it if we stick to the rules we agreed upon and the committee shall execute them.

If there are any ideas on further improvements start posting.

In tournament paintball generally it goes that if you miss you game, you forfeit your points and the other team gets an automatic win. The only people who wouldn't like that rule enforced are the ones who are late, and if they can't make it on time fup 'em.
I don't need new gear to look good. Just 4 Karny's at the gate beside me and 5 idiots at the other one.

I agree with that what Loki said above. The time keeping is very important in any sports. We all have to stick to the rules and schedule, otherwise it's gonna be just a bunch of people painting out there but not a tournament or competition. What I would like to see in the next year as improvement or changes that the type of games, objectives and the score system. I believe there is no point to have 2 almost the same objectives at events and confusing players, referees. I remember when we went to the start zone and the referee couldn't tell us what's the current objective and I guess we all have similar experiences. I would suggest to have 1 objective /event and it would be easier to everyone and may help us sticking to the schedule. The other thing is about the scores, is the point given for completing the objective I think its a bit too much. 100-150pts given for it once completed and 10pts for eleminated opponents. I would say give 50pts for objective and only if its completed fully, this could keep the scores and standings closer but also given at least one more reason to keep "figthing".

    Lads,
All your points are correct but they are nothing new. We have schedules and rules for all these situations.

They need to be enforced. That is the most important thing.

All points are currently been discussed by the committee and they will be addressed.

    I cannot quite get it.

If we have rules about timekeeping why weren't they applied during last IWL???

I travelled 280 km one way to the event, that is 4 hour drive, gametime is valuable for me, very valuable.

If the league has procedures in place they need to be applied.

It is common sense, moreover it shows basic respect towards players.

Also, by waiting for late comers the committee reinforces idea that it is ok to be late.

    No, it isn't.

It is also not ok that players are not familiar with rules of the game at particular event.

If the problems lies within IWL rules then rules must be amended.

If the problem lies with IWL committee then the comittee must be amended.

One way or another we need changes before the next year or we start loosing players and teams.

And I am not happy with the answers "it is being discussed".

I wish to know what is being done

Once again if the committee needs any help all you have to do is to let us (or me) know.

One thing you can do is to assign event coordinator for each event, a person who will basically be responsible for supervision of the day. I volunteer for first next year's event

Everything ran smoothly in IWL1. Don't know what happened after that.

    Loki,

You are not the only one travelling to these events. I travel from London to each and every one. And I Am on time for all of them.

I'm not happy with how the event went and it must and will be addressed before the cup. With regard to the event co-ordinator it is a motion that has literally been discussed in the last few hours on the private forum. It is a role that needs to be allocated and it's one I would gladly take on.

We need a couple of days to do a full review of what happened the last day and put a complete proposal forward to ensure it does not happen again. We cannot afford to make a rash decision.

I'm a paintballer, the rest of the committee are paintballers and we more than anyone want the days to run properly.

With regard to you willing to take part in organising I have no issue with it and the more help the better with particular to the event days.

as with all other paintball events if your late ya forfiet points. why are people askin for the committe to sort things out its the players fault if their late not the committees. if your late its your own tough.

any events i have played the teams get a sheet of paper at the captains meetin of who is playing who and at what time and the head ref just makes a hollar of what two teams are up next ya dont hear it again your own fault.

even when we train we dont wait for late people we just get on with it.

Loki, I can understand both your own frustration and that of all other players that attended the even this weekend... I have personally apologized for my own tardiness, leaving at 7 30 was clearly not enough time as I got lost several times but we do realize that the rules must be enforced moving forward.

If a player fails to show up then it should be down to the captain( or vice captain if captain is missing) to make the call on the teams behalf... This did not happen this weekend and we are in the process of putting in place several different proceedures to resolve several different issues.

Again my apologies that things did not run smoothly at the last event but we will endeavor to make both the cup day and next years IWL run seamlessly..

Also would love to have you alongside to help run things.

It been decussed as in there will be organised refs and it will be more likely that team will not have to ref or at leased in a major way , the head ref will be on the ball with everything .

As they say the party is over so to speak . If ya not on the feild on time the show will go on with out ya .

@Glen - There is hardly any person that did more for development of paintball, especially woodsball in Ireland than you.
You are a valuable person in IWL committee and I do not want your place.
Even if you are quiet member you speak in the right time, like you proved (again) at last IWL.

    @Johnny
I know you travel a lot so you can understand my point about gametime being precious.

I am glad that you find the idea of game coordinator (or whatever you call this person) useful, but make no mistakes, it will be difficult job, and coordinator will be as popular as head ref
(Great respect to Robbie for his reffing last time in this horrendous conditions, you have got balls mate)

I think that this particular role is crucial for smooth operation of IWL.

As is the commitment of all players and committee.

Concerning my participation in the IWL committee, I will gladly do that if I can make meaningful contribution with regards to development of the league and paintballing.
Otherwise it does not make any sense.

I dont disagree on the lateness,i was the first person onsite even before the manager was there, when jay and myself travel 3 and a half hours to battlebridge we are normally within the first 5 people there inc glen..

Its easy to turn around and blame the committee at the end of the day as its the only real avenue for this, i think also teams may be too friendly with iwl organisers and take advantage of this.. We have all learned from this and it has been costly to the iwl thus far, BUT NO MORE, AND YOU CAN TAKE THAT TO THE BANK, THE BLOOD BANK

I cant see why people are trying to blame the committee for all the downfalls alot of it comes down to the players and how laid back and lazy we can be. We landed at 9 in the morning and to fair most of the players were there, yet we waited until 11.30 to start because a few players were late or didnt show up. To be honest there was nothing stoping us in those 2 and half hours sorting out the rules and boundries which were a factor in the first game as we all seen, so we are all to blame.
So I hope the next day in glens goes an awful lot better then the last hopefully I will still be around I am trying to swing it that I am, so lets just all try to be there on time get started on time and hope all runs to plan and enjoy our last event of the year.

I think the real issue here is the IWL committees inability to do the relatively simple task of picking dates that its not going to rain on, the have 365 days to choose from and they pick ones that its raining. Get it sorted lads!

In fairness Quadsey, we live in Ireland, that means we are looking at only 20 days per year when it doesn't rain, and in 15 of those it snows!!

I just ordered a new crystal ball from mysticmeg.com as airdrop didn't have one in stock (shame on you MysticMak tutut lol). So next year we will only play on savagely hot and sunny 40 degree days......
